Welcome to The Liturgical Poet!
Hi, my name is Jill Miley, and I created this blog because there are three things I love most in this world: my Catholic Faith, my family, and writing. Here at The Liturgical Poet, I'm aiming to combine all three of these passions.
Born and raised Catholic, I fell in love with the Catholic Faith all over again after starting my family and learning about how to implement liturgical living within the home. And while I began centering our lives around the liturgical year mostly for the sake of the children, my husband and I have also come to love the way that liturgical living has helped us grow together in our Faith. I've thoroughly enjoyed learning about all that the Church's liturgical calendar has to teach and figuring out new and creative ways to bring the wisdom of the Faith into our everyday lives.
As for my family, my husband and I have been together for twelve years and married for six of them. We have four beautiful daughters, one of whom is now in heaven. In October 2023, our daughter Azalea Grace (our little Zelie) died in the womb when I was 38 weeks pregnant for reasons I'll likely never know in this life. It was the most devastating, heartbreaking experience I've ever had to endure, but by the grace of God, we are coping with this tragic loss one day at a time. However, it was also through losing Azalea that I came back to writing.
I became interested in writing at a young age and worked to develop my skills over the course of my education, eventually studying Creative Writing during my time in college. But as life quickly grew hectic with my first teaching job followed by four back-to-back pregnancies, I had all but stopped making time to write. After Azalea's death, though, my life came to a halt, and at the prompting of a dear friend, I began writing again to help cope with my daughter's passing. Now, I'm writing about everything each chance I get.
On this blog, I hope to share some of my passions through my writing. In recent years, I've been smitten with classical forms of poetry and marrying them with theological themes, all inspired by the liturgical year, which is where the title for this blog was born. But I plan to write even more beyond my Catholic poetry; I'm just waiting to see where the Spirit moves me from one moment to the next. I doubt it will be perfect, but I hope it ends up being a prayerful, loved-filled experience nonetheless. So if you're interested in walking this journey with me, stay tuned, remain open, and we can see where the Lord wants to lead us next.
